Chesapeake Bay Retriever
With its muscular frame, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever has a short and slightly wavy coat. This retriever comes in a range of solid colours including a multiple of different browns and tan, sometimes with a red overtone. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever can also have some white on its chest and feet. It has a round head with a medium stop and muzzle. They have thin lips and small ears that hang down with yellowish eyes. This breed is a great swimmer due to its webbed toes and strong hindquarters.

Temperament : |
The Chesapeake Bay Retriever are warm affectionate, friendly dogs. They are great with children, they love to retrieve and play at the same time being very obedient. However this dog can be slightly more territorial and aggressive than other retrievers, and they are slightly slower in learning. However with good firm training and handling, with consistency and affection, it can easily develop into an obedient, warm, caring dog. |
Health issues : |
This dog can be susceptible to several types of eye problems and hip issues. |
Exercise : |
This dog needs a lot of activity so swimming is a great way to achieve this and help it to stay in shape! Without a full daily exercise this dog could become restless and this may lead to behavioural problems. They like being outdoors with plenty of room, and they prefer the cool climates to hot ones. |
Life expectancy : |
These dogs are expected to live for around ten to twelve years on average. |
Grooming : |
This breed sheds only an average amount of fur and it's dense, woolly undercoat is oily for water-repellence. So not too many baths otherwise this will strip away the oil coating. Occasional bathing will prevent odour, and brush with a firm bristle brush to remove dead hair. Grooming is quite easy due to their short dense hair. |
