Dog exercise

Know much about dog exercise? "Couch potatoes" is a name you usually associate with people, but we figure you can have a couch potato dog too. A dog loafing about your house all day isn't (unsuprisingly) very good for you or for the dog's health and fitness. Dog exercise is very important for your pets wellbeing, health and enjoyment. Even if you have a small dog don't think that toy or the small breed dogs need no exercise.

In terms of dog exercise and how much fitness time they need, it's true to a point that a pint sized poodle would not need as much exercise as a cocker spaniel, or collie. But small dogs love to run, just as much as the big breeds do and all dogs need to be taken out for exercise. Walking in the neighbourhood will not just exercise their little legs, it exercises their minds, think how bored you'd be if you never went out?

Dog exercise helps your pet stay fit and healthy, in body and mind. Dogs that do not have the right kind of exercise can become naughty and unresponsive to your commands. So if you have a small dog, let him walk istead of laying about the house, or being carried around. Take him for a walk a bit more often, walking small dogs does not have to be a chore, little and often is best.

Remember though that little legs can't take them as far as a big dog can go! So short walks are best, if you have a fitness routine why not include your dog in it. Running and jogging, as part of a fitness routine can be fun. Plus, you might even feel safer if you have a big dog. Whether you ride a bike, skate, jog or walk, your dog can be included, even hiking and climbing too. You can buy products to help keep them under control, whilst running, such as extra long leads. So your dog can be safe as well.

Overweight dogs run the same health risks as a person does. Giving your dog too many treats, too much food, and not enough exercise will put your dogs health at risk. Liver, kidney and heart problems can develop, and be life threatening. Your dog can also suffer from other ailments which are not life threatening, but debilitating.

A fat dog can suffer from hip and skin problems, so save your vet bills and get your dog out running. Even if you have mobility problems of your own, you can still get your dog exercising. Playing fetch is a great way to exercise your dog, without you having to run alongside, so go have fun with your dog!
